Dear Editor:

I do not understand our president.

We are told we fight for democracy. Yet, millions of people at home and abroad oppose the war on Iraq. They and their leaders are trivialized.

We are told we fight for freedom. Yet, I am labeled un-American for speaking out.

We are told we fight terrorism. Yet, we have forgotten Osama bin Laden.

We are told we fight Saddam’s cruelty to his people. Yet, we are set to attack with death and destruction, hunger and homelessness those same people.

We are told Iraq must disarm. Yet, we have notified the world that we will strike first.

We are put on alert for terrorist attacks. Yet, a war on Iraq will trigger more terrorism.

We are told we are being protected. Yet, our mighty military cannot protect us from terrorist attacks.

When will we learn that it will not be bombs but humanity determined to live together in mutual respect, peace and cooperation that will defeat terrorism?
