Editor,
Regarding your news story “Farmers Worried About Lack of Laborers,” while I’m sure it’s true that many immigrants would rather work in construction or food service, adding more and more people to a state that is already overpopulated does not seem like a good long-term solution. If you let migrant workers work for awhile and then “let them go back,” who is going to be there to make sure they leave? Most of the 8 to 12 million illegal immigrants who live in this country will never be deported. More people means more pollution, traffic, garbage, less open space, etc.
I can’t say that there is an easy solution to the shortage of farm labor (if there really is one). Maybe technological alternatives need to be pursued.
