Hollister – Plans for a garbage collection system that will include Hollister, San Juan Bautista and unincorporated San Benito County are moving forward.

The County Board of Supervisors, Hollister City Council and San Juan Bautista City Council will hold a joint meeting on Tuesday to consider going out to bid on a waste collection contract that will include all three jurisdictions. Each organization currently has a separate contract, but city and county representatives have said working together should help lower garbage rates for everyone.

According to a report from the county’s Integrated Waste Management agency, the new proposal features several services that have been added as a result of public input, including a new 10-gallon collection service for residents with minimal garbage, the option to request smaller collection vehicles on private roads and unlimited recycling collection.

The new garbage contract is set to begin on July 1, 2008.

The joint meeting will start at 6pm in the County Administration Building on 481 Fourth Street.
