Editor,

Regarding your articles about the California Highway Patrol commander who did not want to return a man’s medical cannabis, I have been a smoker of cannabis for over 40 years. I suffer from mental and physical ailments which are greatly helped by medical cannabis. I do not take any other medication or drink alcohol. I am a taxi driver who sees the sickening behavior of drunken fools every night.

I have to watch this every night and then I go home after 12 hours of work and have to read how some cop is totally disregarding the directive given to all California Highway patrolmen to cease the harassment of medical cannabis users. This directive was written by the Attorney General and called for the CHP to obey the will of the people of the state of California, their employer.

The federal government is an outdated, overused and useless bloodsucking entity. The time has come to either listen to the will of the people when it comes to things like someone smoking harmless cannabis or they are going to discover that there are a whole lot more smokers out here than they realize who are fed up with being victimized by the drug war and are “mad as hell and are not going to take it any longer.”

CHP Commander Knorr is a state employee and should have obeyed the laws of this state. He should be brought up on charges for willfully disobeying state law.

Marijuana should never have been illegalized. It is natural, unadulterated by humans and totally safe and free from side effects except for the smoking factor. I have been smoking tobacco since I was eight and cannot quit even though I have tried for 30 years. Cannabis is less harmful than tobacco and less addicting. The effects on cannabis users who smoke for medicinal uses or for pleasure do very little to harm anyone in our society.

Sure there are the occasional drivers under the influence, but that has more to do with the fact that cannabis stays in your system long after the effects wear off. I challenge any law enforcement officer to show that I am too impaired to drive when I smoke cannabis. I will admit that an occasional or first-time user could get into trouble if they do not know their limitations.

If cannabis was legal, we would be smoking in clubs just like the bars. There would be far less negative incidents overall compared to alcohol users who are notorious for starting fights for ridiculous reasons, always smell bad and often hurt themselves not to mention the innocent victims of their mayhem. Cannabis has no negative effect when compared to alcohol. Long-time users build up a tolerance and usually experience no effects which would be considered negative to driving or living especially when compared to all of the accidents caused by cell phones and people going way too fast or eating while driving or especially drunk drivers. The effects of alcohol on drivers is such that they become very careless and stupid.

I have never had a DUI, or any accidents which were my fault. I have had one moving violation in 25 years and that was in my cab because I was apprehensive about my next fare. I obey the laws that I believe in but the law making cannabis illegal is nothing but a lie perpetuated on our society by persons not interested in truth or justice. I assure you they will have their reward for their deeds. Legalize it now.
