Dear Editor,

The T-shirts fiasco the city got themselves into can be fixed. My solution to this would be to keep selling the shirts. Believe it or not, people traveling through town are looking for 2008 Hollister Rally T-Shirts. A waitress at Jerry’s Restaurant said just about everyday she works, someone asks her where they can get the rally shirts. Toby Sherman works two nights a week at Righetti’s Liquor Store, said he gets asked the same question all the time. One solution, first lower the price to $12 dollars each or two for $20 dollars. Next, on 8-by-14 bright orange copier paper, print up about 200 flyers with all the info needed to direct people when and where they can get shirts. Put these up all over the place. Start at Dunneville, and work your way to San Juan, Hollister, Tres PInos and down to Panoche Inn. Anywhere bikers go to, put a flyer up. Java Bagels, Starbucks, Jerry’s Restaurant, Wizards Cafe at Corbins, just to name a few. Any restaurant, any gas station, any liquor store, any motel should be willing to do this since it is their tax money they are trying to save. Try and sell a promotional idea to Corbin, like buy a new seat and throw in a rally shirt. There are many more solutions out there for them to consider. It is up to the city to be pro active to get us out of this mess instead of just throwing their arma up in the air and saying we lost $100,000. They know they had all shirts and have already missed opportunities to move them, like the street festival, or the weekly Farmers Market. San Juan has had a number of events downtown where these shirts could have been sold. It’s probably to late to take advantage of the SBC County Fair, but any future event that draw a a crowd, like the Lights on Parade, should be looked into. Any event in San Juan should be looked into. It starts with cIty council members donating their time along with several city officials, to get this going. They got us into this mess, it is up to them to get us out of it.
