Peace is a family value
Steve Collins forcefully expressed himself in the last letter to
the editor. A few issues remain of which he is not aware.
Many veterans present at the Veteran’s Day Celebration expressed
their grateful appreciation for our presence. These Korean War and
Vietnam Vets appreciated a point of view that understood the horror
they experienced in war, and their subsequent difficulties
adjusting to normalcy back home. Our group felt deep connections
with them as we work for peace for which they fought. We found many
vets experienced a hunger for the art of peacekeeping.
Einstein, the father of atomic theory, became an American
citizen and advised Roosevelt and Congress that militarism
misdirected the country. Einstein pointed out that our capacity for
reasoning directs the use of all means peaceful to maintain our
humanity and life.
Since you brought up the subject of abortion, you understand
that women are the primary keepers of life. That is why women
become wartime targets. It appears that women again become war
targets in your letter. It seems that Obama did get it right. Women
need equal pay for equal work. Women would then possess the means
to raise their children. Civil rights and life indeed are family
values, as is peacekeeping.
