Voters and candidates should understand the jurisdictions
With the June election approaching and the endless bombardment
of literature, particularly from a new supervisor candidates, it’s
clear the candidate has no clear understanding of the jurisdiction
or responsibility of a supervisor.
The candidate talks of creating an urban revitalization
coalition that will focus on rebuilding downtown, as well as making
streets gang-safe and reducing city sewer and water rates.
None of these issues are the responsibility of, or in the
jurisdiction (unincorporated area) of a supervisor.
These issues are the responsibility of our city council.
Supervisor candidates must be concerned with and have a plan to
address unincorporated-rural area concerns and issues. Issues such
as rural gangs, those who steal vehicles, equipment and livestock,
as well as products from orchards and fields. Issues such as loss
of livestock to wild animals and the severe water shortage. A
supervisor candidate must be concerned with and have a plan to
negate this activity.
Clever literature, endorsements from the media, local leaders
and friends isn’t information to make an informed decision. After
all, endorsements are just opinions, not facts. It’s obvious the
endorsers don’t know the difference between the responsibilities or
jurisdiction of a supervisor (unincorporated) or council member
(incorporated.)
Effective, efficient government depends on the free-will vote of
INFORMED voters, not the vote of uninformed, the good-ole-boy
network and the disinterested
