I am just writing because I missed the talk of the week and I wanted to voice my opinion on a recent question of the week. “Do you support the city hosting a Hollister Airshow in 2016?” No, I do not because they are always in the red, as far as the budget. I feel Mike Chambles has too much on his plate. How can we make money, if there losing too much money? One year, with 10,000 people slipping through the gate for free—aren’t you the code enforcement officer? Also when one person has too much on his plate, then maybe it’s time to send in some help, or get demoted.
Also, when a homeless person asked to be a volunteer, they turned him away. I feel he should be apologized to. That is not professionalism. That is discrimination. Even when I want to be volunteer, they turn me away. I am tired of the city officials picking and choosing who they want to be involved and who can’t be involved, and it is not right.
I feel if they do continue on with the air show, they do need a lot better advertising, and better music bands, maybe some Spanish bands and English bands, known bands. If you shop around you can find a good band. People have good feedback and ideas, but they don’t want to hear it. They hear what they want to hear.
Our city is not organized and you have to plan and prepare before you go out and do it, and they had plenty of time to plan for this, and still cannot get it right. Let the community be involved and let people volunteer and that would save money right there. If anyone needs help with anything, I do not mind helping out my community. I have jumpers and big water slides that I have lent out to people for birthday parties, for free. We need quality workmanship in our city. We need better performance and to have our city show that they truly care for the people of their community.
If you the taxpayer believes that the air show has only been going on for five years, hasn’t it been going on for many more years? When things are not going right, they will lead you to believe anything. They should be accountable for the mistakes they make. If I had the chance to lead the air show, I would offer my services for free, to bring a successful air show, down to security and all. I know concert promoters, for Zap and Roger, and Shirley Murdock and many more, I was back stage 10 feet away. I know how it works. I personally got to go to the store with the cousin for Zap and Roger and it was an honor and delivered it to them; they gave me a hug and shook my hand and said thank you with love. I was there to learn and experience how the event is set up and the process. I have experience in organizing and I know advertisers. I am the same person I was before I got hurt.
For example: When I ran for election. I ran my commercials for two and a half months on two separate TV stations. I also did a radio station advertisement. And I did not spend hundreds of thousands of dollars. It’s all about how you plan things. If the city needs help or the county, I would be honored to help out for free in any way. I am not them. I am me.
