Parade shows bad side of SJB
Dear Editor,
Last Sunday, my wife and I and our three children ventured over to San Juan Bautista to watch the Easter Parade. We decided to make it a family day with a picnic after the parade. Boy, were we in for a rude awakening! How many people out there think that San Juan is just a nice, quiet, sleepy town? Well if any of you do, you would be so very wrong. It is a pretty well-kept secret that since law enforcement has been cut back, crime has escalated. I’ll bet none of you knew that there have been numerous home and business burglaries and car burglaries in just the last month. I sure haven’t read anything in the local papers about it. I’ll bet that most of the people living right in San Juan don’t even know that they should be locking their doors and keeping a watchful eye on their property. Why keep quiet about this? Is it so that the tourists don’t find out and quit coming? If that is the case, it is not working. During the Easter Parade on Sunday, two local San Juan punks decided to stir things up. For some strange reason, these two delinquents were given the opportunity to do community service as repayment for prior crimes that they had committed (one of the crimes being that of pushing down a disabled senior citizen). The intelligent people running the city of San Juan decided to let these little punks perform their community service by helping at the parade. Instead of helping, they started harassing people – local people and tourists, including my wife and myself. They were threatening senior citizens and small children. After about 30 minutes, a deputy finally arrived and arrested one of these punks. Is this what the city of San Juan wants to be noted for? This city needs cleaning, not just the eyesores of overgrown yards, junk cars, garbage, weeds, and ignorant city officials, but also the low-life that seems to be congregating there. Having a local police department wouldn’t hurt either. Maybe then the tourists will return. I for one won’t be returning to San Juan. I would rather take my chances in Oakland. As for our picnic lunch, we went home and had a picnic in our backyard.

Thanks for care of mom
Dear Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Mabie Northside Nursing Home in Hollister for the excellent care given to my mom while a resident there.
The CNA’s nurses, activity personnel, housekeeping, kitchen staff and volunteers were wonderful and helped make my mom’s last days on earth the best.
Hollister is very fortunate to have a home like Northside that employs such a caring staff that are superb in their field. A special thank you to Correne Porteur, MDS coordinator, and Nancy Divis, social worker, for making sure mom had every convenience to make her the most comfortable in a “home” environment.
Mom went home to be with the Lord on Friday February 29, 2008. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
For anyone who would hesitate to have their family member a resident of Mabie Nursing Home, know that you would not be disappointed in the care they would receive.
I am so full of appreciation knowing my mom spent her last few months cared for by a great group of such caring individuals.
