Worldwide Rider Hopes City Lost Money on Policing Costs
Worldwide Rider Hopes City Lost Money on Policing Costs
Editor,
I have been riding a Harley all over the USA, Europe and Australia. Every time I come to the Hollister Rally I see more cops than I have seen at the total sum of all the other rallies that I have been to. It was apparent from the 1997 Rally that city officials have a case of biker phobia.
The BIKERS of the Hollister rally have put Hollister on the world map. It’s too bad the city chooses to close down this city now.
I heard scary stories that the 180-plus cops were writing dumb tickets, like not curbing your wheels or not putting both feet down at a stop sign. When you are shifting into a lower gear at the stop sign you have to pull one foot up from the pavement. Yesterday I saw more cars being ticketed than bikes. HooRay. I hope all the dissenting board members got tickets. I hope so. I hope the city lost lots of money for police “protection.” I hope all the jerk city politicians get voted out next election. I will come next year again on my Red Harley. I will spend my money only at the church or out-of town-venders. Oh yes I made sure I bought my gas out on 101.
May Hollister wake up.

Between the Helicopters and Fireworks, it was Annoying
Editor,
Even in an official rally year, thousands of bikers couldn’t come close to being as annoying as the constant drone of helicopters and barrage of illegal fireworks that occurred this year. I can only assume that the first official law enforcement rally kept the officers so busy that they were unable to enforce their “zero tolerance” stance on illegal fireworks.
What a sad little town indeed.

He May Move to Hollister Just to Vote out the Council
Editor,
I’m thinking of buying a house in Hollister so I can vote the City Council out of office next election. These morons are taking Hollister off the map. Maybe they can grow raspberries and become the berry capital.

Thanks to Local Citizens for Welcoming Us to the Rally
Editor,
As one of the bikers attending the “unofficial rally” this year despite the local closeminded elected officials trying their best to make me and my friends feel totally unwelcome, I would like to thank the local citizens who did their best to make us feel the exact opposite, especially the store owner who filled me in on the tri-tip stand which was run by one of the biggest opponents of the rally. Believe me, I told everyone I could who was benefitting from that stand and I was there with a group that numbered over 300!
Also thanks to the police officers that treated us with respect, they were the ones caught in the middle, even the hundred or so that weren’t needed. The officers I talked to on Sunday at Johnnys told me that there were zero incidents involving the brothers and sisters I attended the event with, and believe it or not that is the way our group wants it. this was not our first rally and it will not be our last, see you next year officially or not!
