Hooper Did Anything But ‘Squeak’ Into Election Success
Hooper Did Anything But ‘Squeak’ Into Election Success

Editor:

I would like to call attention to your selection of the word “Squeaks” in the headline in Wednesday’s Free Lance (Hooper Squeaks Into DA Seat). I would understand if there were two people running and one of them got just over 50 percent, one might reasonably label that a squeak. However, when three candidates were running and one of them got more votes than the other two added together I would think that would more properly be labeled a mandate rather than a squeak.

Column on Gay Rights Issue Was on the Mark

Editor:

Well done to Ms. Gage. The proposed amendment is a complete waste of time and debate at a time when there are such far more pressing issues facing or nation.

Even absent those issues, the amendment is an insult to the spirit and ideals that formed the bedrock of our society … that each individual should be free to master their own fate, and that oppression should never be advanced or tolerated; no matter that the source of such oppression is domestic and not foreign.

Like so much in today’s politics the motivation is clearly “political”.

Keep up the good work.
