Why Tax Only Property Owners to Address Mosquito Issue?
Why Tax Only Property Owners to Address Mosquito Issue?
Editor,
Property owners, vote no on the mosquito abatement ballot.
This is a public health issue: Mosquitos bite everybody, but our county supervisors are talking the cowardly path of putting the bite only on property owners.
Property taxes should pay only for property related services such as fire and police protection, water and sewerage.
Public health issues should be paid for by all the public through general revenues, not by singling out a sub set of the population, property owners, as any easy tax increase target.
For Hollister property taxpayers, your local redevelopment agency, RDA, skims off about $10 million a year of your tax payments that would otherwise go to local needs.
How about putting the bite there?
Vote no on this new, misdirected tax increase.

There’s Still a Local Option for Those Who Need Formal Wear
Editor,
I didn’t know where to turn to rent a tuxedo for my son’s senior ball after hearing that Dick Bruhn’s store closed.
I was actually prepared to drive to Morgan Hill when, at the last minute, I asked my son to call his friends and find out where they were renting their formal attire.
I was surprised to find out that She’s, right here in downtown Hollister, is now renting out tuxedos as an outlet for Selix formal attire.
I’m committed to the concept of shopping local, especially when paying outrageous prices for gasoline these days.
On top of that, Sheila Stevens (owner of She’s) is a pillar of the community and a joy to do business with.
We got a great deal on a tuxedo rental and didn’t have to spend the extra time and money traveling out of county.
Young men looking for a last-minute tuxedo rental for the senior ball or lovers making wedding plans would do well to shop at She’s on San Benito Street in Hollister for their formal attire needs.
Buy local!
