New Sewer Rates? Better Pick Up Another Job
New Sewer Rates? Better Pick Up Another Job

Editor,

I have been reading the editorials concerning the increase in sewer rates and how it would be a hardship on the elderly on fixed incomes. Let’s face it, unless you pick up a part-time job, we’re all on fixed income at the mercy of our employers. Our family has been conservative or frugal on spending in all facets of our lives. We certainly don’t want to spend more on a sewer fee of all fun things, whoopie!

Personally, I would rather have a night out on the town! (Dinner versus sewer.) So why not develop a fee schedule based on use? It would be impossible to put more volume down a drain than you take into your home, so why not take a three-month average of the water bill we each receive, which shows incoming volume. These figures are easily accessible, as our bills are generated from data in a computer somewhere. Now, some people will say what about the water used in landscaping? It would be most accurate if you were to take the average during the winter months while landscape use is at a minimum. When it is time for an increase in fees, run the average use again to keep it accurate.

Better to Send Nazis to

Their European Homes

Editor,

As I promised, I’ve been keeping up with the Dispatch and the “goings-on” in Gilroy! I must say, I am HIGHLY disappointed by seeing this article (Free Lance, Sept. 2) related to the Nazi party, thinking that there will be a second article, and your “disclaimer” after providing free publicity for this hate group complete with Web site and phone numbers!

I must also say, I was quite taken aback when, throughout the article you make this group sound like liberal democrats … until you manage, over halfway down the page, to mention the mere omission of every racial and cultural group within their “plans.”

I have a good idea, since he wants ALL “non-whites” and “jews” deported … I think it would be simpler to just deport the Nazis to their European homes. There’s fewer of them so it would cost our government and those of the European nations from whence they came far less money.

I’m just really shocked and disappointed that this article was permitted to take up space, time and money.
