80 at his eldest daughter’s home in Valley Center, Calif.

Hollister resident Lewis L. Johnston died June 20 at the age of 80 at his eldest daughter’s home in Valley Center, Calif.

Born in Superior, Ariz., Johnston lived in Hollister for the past 16 years, enjoying retirement at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. He also traveled extensively with his wife Jackie.

Johnston served as a U.S. Navy pilot during World War II. He retired in 1978 after 38 years with the Pacific Telephone Company.

He was survived by wife Jackie Johnston; daughter and son-in-law Kay and Jerry Fenton of Valley Center, Calif., daughters Karen Johnston of Port Orchard, Wash., and Gayle Higby of Santa Barbara, Calif.; stepson and daughter-in-law Brent and Melissa Belisle of Wildomar, Calif.; stepdaughter and son-in-law Debbie and Randy Bertuzzi of Bonsall, Calif.; and sister Winifred Jentges of Orange, Calif. Johnston is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Johnston.

A private cremation is planned.

The family suggests donations to a charity of choice, the World War II Memorial or the Elizabeth Hospice of Escondido, Calif.
