A Tuesday workshop at the Hollister Community Center will look at issues of sustainability and transportation in San Benito, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

It’s one of the last steps for completion of the long-awaited,
$49 million Highway 25 bypass.
For now at least, a closure to the intersection at the city’s busiest intersection will start at the end of this month, a transportation official said Monday.

Lisa Rheinheimer, executive director at the Council of San Benito County Governments, said officials still plan to start the work later this month at the commercial-heavy intersection Airline Highway and Sunnyslope Road.

It’s one of the last steps for completion of the long-awaited, $49 million Highway 25 bypass. COG officials had planned the construction there for May, but later moved it to early June and now most recently to later in the month. They expect the intersection will be closed for about 30 days.

Crews have been anticipating the major part of the intersection construction by having utilities adjust lines running underground while working on a retaining wall and sidewalks on one side of the road, Rheinheimer said.
