Hollister – An 18-year-old Hollister man was carjacked and kidnapped at knife point Wednesday evening and forced to drive his captor to Gilroy, the Hollister Police Department reported.
The Gilroy Police Department arrested a 45-year-old Hollister man on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping and violation of parole, all felonies, and being under the influence of drugs, a misdemeanor, at Safeway on First Street in Gilroy, according to police.
According to the 18-year-old, at about 4pm that day a knife-wielding man approached him while stopped in his car at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Hillcrest Road in Hollister, said officer Rosie Betanio, a spokeswoman for Hollister police.
The man opened the passenger door and entered the vehicle, Betanio said, demanding the victim drive him to Gilroy.
After driving around side streets in Gilroy, the victim was told to drop off the man at Safeway on First Street.
Betanio said the 18-year-old man called police at 5:15pm Wednesday to report the carjacking and kidnapping. The department issued a “be-on-the-lookout” to the Gilroy Police Department, the spokeswoman said.
Gilroy police officers responded to Safeway and arrested a man who matched the description of the suspect and was later identified by the victim, Betanio said. No one was injured.
