First, proponents stood in front of supermarkets and Gold’s Gym collecting signatures by telling voters the signatures were only to put it on the ballot and that they didn’t have to read it.
The proponents then encouraged the Board of Supervisors to adopt it to keep voters from voting No. Then, after the No on Measure G Committee gathered over 5,000 signatures to put it on the ballot, proponents sued to keep voters from voting No. They lost. Then, proponents sued in the Appeals Court, again to keep voters from voting No. After another loss, proponents appealed to the State Supreme Court, again to keep you from voting No. They lost again.
Why would a group work so hard and spend so much against the public interests? Now I know why – Measure G has nothing to do with limiting growth and nothing to do with preserving agriculture. They were afraid you would learn the truth. Their campaign and what they are not telling the voters is what makes so many voters angry.
Measure G is about power. Taking land rights from the largest land owner to the smallest. It is about restricting businesses and destroying jobs, especially in packing houses. Measure G is about eliminating equity that creates jobs and provides services. Measure G is about keeping businesses out and increasing rents. Measure G is about a lot of other things you are not being told.
Measure G is about deceptive strategy. After losing in Monterey, the measure was brought here financed by outside narrow interests. That is why they didn’t talk to business leaders, business owners, labor representatives and farmers. They are a small group of arrogant elitists who don’t do their homework and think they know best what is in our interest.
San Benito County has been classified as a depressed county for decades. They want to keep it that way or make it worse. The voters should join other communities and stop them. We and future generations can’t afford it. Vote No on Measure G.
