For all of you who are tired of hearing about Measure G and candidates for the Board of Supervisors, rest assured that the end is near. For those of you waiting to see common sense hit the City Council, well you’re going have to wait for a while!

I hope many of you have taken the time to study and learn about the issues on the ballot. Having a full understanding of whom or what you’re voting on helps to put a stop to the many games unscrupulous elected officials try to play on unsuspecting voters. Above all, never let any elected politician take away your property and voting rights!

This past year was a prime example of how quickly you could lose your property and voting rights by politicians bent on doing what is right for themselves and not the public. Measure G is the best example of how greed and corruption amongst the Board of Supervisors almost divided a once-friendly community.

Many supporters of Measure G genuinely want to protect the county from out-of-control growth, but so do opponents of Measure G. The problem with Measure G is that it was never really about growth control, it was about power and money. When the largest developer in the county (our very own supervisor) and his close friends drafted Measure G they made sure of one thing – his land would be exempt.

What the supervisor(s) won’t tell you is that he has desires to develop hundreds and hundreds of homes right behind Ridgemark. Why else would the county spend millions on a bridge that is not needed?

It’s called Ingress and Egress, which is just a fancy term the planning department uses to describe entrances and exits. Without two exits, a large development can’t be built, which brings us back to the millions being spent on a bridge only a few residents now need. The new bridge being built will now provide for an additional egress (exit) needed for the supervisor’s project. In other words, if Measure G passes the residents of Ridgemark will now have hundreds of new neighbors.

I can write on and on about Measure G, but all of you have heard it all before. This letter is more about how important your vote is to your own future. If you truly believe Measure G will control growth, then vote for it.

But if you read it and wonder why the growth cap will increase from 1 percent to 2 percent you’ll start to understand that Measure G was never about growth control and is nothing more than a move by the supervisors to pull the wool over your eyes.

After the elections Tuesday, March 2, a full investigation should be conducted by the grand jury on the conduct of the Board of Supervisors with regard to Measure G and what role each supervisor played in Measure G.

Things are finally coming to a vote and it looks like the good old boy system is coming to an end, but remember it’s up to you, the informed voter, to make our future bright and prevent corruption from ever taking hold in San Benito County again!
