At the first meeting of 2013, San Benito County supervisors are expected to make a decision on the temporary appointment of a management budget analyst III after receiving a short notice vacancy on Dec. 28. The meeting will be Tuesday at 9 a.m., in the supervisors’ chamber on Fourth Street.
Jacki Credico, a management analyst III, will ask supervisors for approval to hire a former accounting manager to fill the position on a temporary basis. In the supervisor’s agenda, Credico notes “it is critical to appoint an individual who is knowledgeable about the county budget and budget process as this position will be responsible for coordinating the county’s budget for FY 2013-14.”
In order to hire the former accounting manager, supervisors will have to approve the payment of the employers’ share of retirement contributions because the former employee has Public Employees’ Retirement System funds on deposit. County personnel rules state that temporary employees do not receive retirement benefits, but PERS rules require the county to pay the employer’s share of the retirement contributions if the employee already has PERS funds deposited.
Credico estimated the cost to the county for the retirement contribution would be $745 a month for the duration of the appointment. The employee would pay seven percent of the benefit as their share, with the appointment anticipated to last for four to six months.
Supervisors at the meeting will also receive a presentation from Superintendent of Schools Mike Sanchez about county schools. They will hold a public hearing regarding an ordinance to adopt a new fee for processing late-filed change in ownership exclusion claims, with Assessor Terry Slavich present to answer questions on the ordinance.
Supervisors will also elect a new chair and vice-chair of the board. After nominations and an election of a new chair and vice-chair is completed, the newly elected chair will appoint supervisors to serve on committees for the year.
Jaime De La Cruz served as chair of the board in 2012, with Anthony Botelho serving as the vice-chair.
