With one more day left before the deadline, there is one candidate running for the open District 1 council seat while there are three vying for the District 5 position.

The filing deadline for Hollister City Council candidates in the two districts had been extended five days because the incumbents – Brad Pike and Monica Johnson – aren’t running for reelection. Mayor Doug Emerson will be unopposed on the November ballot for the District 4 seat, as he was the only person to file candidacy papers before Friday’s deadline.

The deadline for Districts 1 and 5 is 5 p.m. Wednesday.

In District 1 so far, Planning Commissioner Ray Friend is the only candidate vying to succeed Councilman Brad Pike. In District 5, Papa Murphy’s franchise owner Victor Gomez, Planning Commissioner David Huboi and sheriff’s Lt. Roy Iler are running against one another to succeed Councilwoman Johnson.
