30th District Assemmbly Member Luis Alejo speaks in 2014 during the South Valley Legislative Summit at the Hilton Garden Inn.

South Santa Clara County’s first legislative summit hosted by the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce on April 25 included input from two key San Benito County representatives. The event was a chance for Assemblyman Luis Alejo, D-Salinas, and Congressman Sam Farr, D-Carmel, to share their views to the local crowd. Alejo and Farr each represent San Benito County.
Agriculture was a significant topic of discussion, and Farr noted that Santa Clara County does an average of $250 million in agricultural sales per year.
“People want fresh, organic stuff, and there are many opportunities for small farming,” Farr said. “This is a growth industry, and we are better positioned than anybody in locality, jurisdiction and geography.”
