City pulls weeds from tree wells in downtown
The trees that are meant to beautify the sidewalks downtown were starting to become eyesores, but the city’s public works crews have taken care of the outgrowth since it was pointed out in the Public Works feature last week.
Once the city was aware of the problem, streets official Marcelo Orta made contact with a group at the high school that normally handles cleaning out the tree wells along San Benito Street and some of the side streets. That program did not have the resources available, so Orta assigned crews to pull the invasive weeds, which were sprouting up along the tree trunks.
Orta mid-week had expected city workers would have all the weed-infested trees looking spruced up again.
