Sidewalks, roads getting repaired with stimulus money
Several road rehabilitation projects are under way as part of
the funds received by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act,
including this area near San Benito High School where sidewalk work
had been going on this week.
The rehabilitation project near the high school involves a
portion of Nash Road from San Benito Street to West Street, with
the exception of the Monterey Street intersection where the city
has installed a lighted crosswalk, said city engineering official
David Rubcic.

The rehabilitation project near the high school involves a portion of Nash Road from San Benito Street to West Street, with the exception of the Monterey Street intersection where the city has installed a lighted crosswalk, said city engineering official David Rubcic.
Other areas where stimulus work is being done in the coming months include the intersection of Memorial Drive and Sunnyslope Road, on Memorial Drive from Hillcrest Drive to Sunnyslope, and on Hillcrest from Highway 25 to Memorial Drive, Rubcic said. Also, on Meridian Road, work is scheduled from Memorial to McCray Street. All of the work should be done by mid-October, he said.
The city has contracted with Salinas-based Don Chapin Co., and Rubcic noted how the business had wisely scheduled work near schools first to avoid student traffic.
