City council members effectively canceled the Hollister Motorcycle Rally tonight with a unanimous vote while Councilman Brad Pike was absent and weeks before two new council members, Victor Gomez and Ray Friend, are set to take office.

Council members made the decision in front of a stunned crowd in the city hall chambers. The motion, clarified for Councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez by City Manager Clint Quilter, stated that the city would not sanction the event unless an outside party steps forward to pay for law enforcement costs up-front.
