State parks in San Benito County were not included on a list of up to 70 parks planned for closure to cut $11 million from the budget next fiscal year, according to an announcement from the state.
The closure list includes the 70 parks out of 278 total in the state. The cuts were required by a bill passed in the Legislature and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in March.
The state estimated that despite the cuts, at least 92 percent of total state parks attendance will be retained, along with 94 percent of existing revenues.
While Fremont Peak, Hollister Hills and the San Juan Bautista Historic Park were not on the list, one of the area parks that did make the list was Henry Coe State Park in Santa Clara County.
