not plan to seek a second term in office. Sanchez is serving her
fourth year as the District 2 council representative.
Hollister Councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez announced Monday she does not plan to seek a second term in office.
Sanchez is serving her fourth year as the District 2 council representative. She won the west-side seat in 2006 when she defeated Councilman Robert Scattini, who has said he is considering another run at the role.
Before winning the council seat, Sanchez had served on the Hollister School District but left that seat to pursue the city role. She also had announced last year she intended to run for the 28th District State Assembly seat, but since then backed off those aspirations.
In May 2009, Sanchez had this to say about her intentions at the state level: “With all the changes happening and the economy, that has lent itself to change. Being involved in the city and schools – at that level – has an impact, but this is a crucial step for me. Being that voice is crucial.”
At Monday night’s council meeting, she announced her decision to forego a second council run in the November election and cited her desire to pursue other interests and further her career.
The other open council seat is the one in District 3 held by Councilwoman Pauline Valdivia, who has said she plans to run for a fourth term. Interested candidates have until Aug. 6 to submit paperwork, which can be obtained at Hollister City Hall.
