years ago Jesus, when faced with execution
– when faced with a galling, unfair, outrageous execution –
submitted to the God’s will and halted one of His disciples from
inflicting harm on the enemy. He went the way of Golgotha like a
lamb to the slaughterhouse.

It’s Holy Thursday and we know that around this time 2,005 or so years ago Jesus, when faced with execution – when faced with a galling, unfair, outrageous execution – submitted to the God’s will and halted one of His disciples from inflicting harm on the enemy. He went the way of Golgotha like a lamb to the slaughterhouse.
In many ways, Terri Schiavo is now walking the same road, perhaps as a symbol to all the world of the death of our innocence. This is a big, pivotal case, a huge case that has mushroomed into the Roe v. Wade of euthanasia, and, like the issue of abortion, it has been grossly mishandled by a judiciary that is cold and heartless and out of control: little gods, these, in robes that are now colored appropriately. A state judge is more powerful than the governor and Congress?
It is an extreme situation with extreme consequences – for those involved, for the Schindlers, for the entire country, in the short term and the prophetic long one. Woe to a nation where a human life is valued less than the “letter of the law1” It is life that the law was devised to protect!
And so, barring a surprise turn in the judiciary, it is time for drastic action. President George Bush or Gov. Jeb Bush, or both, must take dramatic steps to save a life, and that means in every way they must get there to woe-begotten Pinellas and take that woman out of the clutches of the evil one. Save her life. Get her out. It is obvious even from minimal visual evidence that this woman has a degree of awareness. It is beyond outrageous to see her starved to death – and if she does, it will be the death, in many ways, of America, at least as a truly Christian nation. Events will follow, perhaps in quick succession, costing more innocent lives.
Never mind your job, or even whether you are arrested for civil disobedience, governor, and Mr. President and legislators, go to that “hospice” – even if it is with federal agents – and save the life of Terri Schiavo. Do it before it’s too late for all of us.
