Former District 2 Councilman Robert Scattini holds a 14-vote lead in the race for that seat, according to the latest results.
Election workers are continuing to count provisional ballots, while the department’s head official Joe Paul Gonzalez had estimated completion by this past Friday.
The results are available at the elections office in the courthouse, but not on the website because it was hacked over the weekend by an outside group and the results page has been shut down temporarily. Assistant Clerk/Recorder Lillian Pereira estimated that the office still had to count about 200 ballots at the end of work hours Monday.
In the close race between Scattini and newcomer Sergio Montanez, the former councilman had gained 406 votes, or 36.2 percent, to 392 votes, or 34.9 percent for Montanez, according to the results. They are vying to succeed Councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez, who did not seek reelection.
In another close race, just two votes separated the third- and fourth-place candidates seeking the final seat available on the Aromas Water District Board of Directors. Stuart Cardott had gained 201 votes to 199 for Marcus Dutra, according to the latest results. The top two vote-getters were Bonnie Mahler with 238 votes and Sylvia Borchard with 229 votes.
In the race for District 4 supervisor, Jerry Muenzer’s lead over fellow businessman Phil Fortino is insurmountable barring a miracle. Muenzer had gained 2,179 votes, or 51.2 percent, to 2,061 votes, or 42.5 percent for Fortino, according to the numbers.
