HONORS

Jorge Munoz

Army Pfc. Jorge A. Munoz has returned to Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Ala., after being deployed to Afghanistan for one year. The soldier is one of 3,500 members of the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Richardson. Airborne combat team members included soldiers assigned to one of six battalions and regiments of the 25th Infantry Division.

The airborne brigade served in three eastern provinces of Afghanistan, which included the Paktya, Paktika and Khost. Soldiers improved roads, provided vocational training in construction and civics, improved and re-opened 29 schools, remodeled six medical clinics and improved three district courthouses.

Munoz, a unit supply specialist, is assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment. He has more than one year of military service.

He is the son of Jorge A. Munoz of Morgan Hill.

Sarah Deboard

Freshman Sarah Deboard, of Morgan Hill, was named to the 2009 fall honor roll at Oklahoma Christian University.

Oklahoma Christian, named a “Best Western College” by The Princeton Review, and “America’s Best University — Masters” by U.S. News & World Report, is a private, four-year comprehensive university.

Christian Rouldan

Christian Rouldan, of Morgan Hill, has been named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the fall semester.

Boston University is the fourth largest independent university in the United States, with an enrollment of more than 29,000 students in its 17 schools and colleges.

James Sanders

Army Pfc. James G. Sanders has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of Lori Conner of Hollister.

Peter Sarll

Navy Seaman Peter B. Sarll, son of Linda C. and Brian Sarll of Morgan Hill, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Sarll completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations”. This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly ”Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor.

Sarll is a 2009 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School.
