The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public nominations for six open positions on its Central California Resource Advisory Council, which advises the BLM on public-land issues.
The nomination deadline is July 29.
Six RAC positions are open – three in Category One, one in Category Two and two in Category Three.
Category One includes public-land ranchers and representatives of organizations associated with energy and mineral development, the timber industry, transportation or rights-of-way, off-highway vehicle use and commercial recreation.
Category Two includes representatives of nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, archaeological and historical organizations, dispersed recreation activities, and wild horse and burro organizations.
Category Three includes representatives of state, county or local elected office; representatives and employees of a state agency responsible for the management of natural resources; representatives of Indian tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized; representatives and employees of academic institutions who are involved in natural sciences; and the public at large.
The Central Valley RAC advises the Bakersfield, Bishop, Hollister and Mother Lode (El Dorado Hills) field offices, BLM spokesman David Christy said.
“The RAC is a very valuable group for us to get citizens to advise us on how to manage public lands,” he said.
People chosen to fill the positions will serve for three years. Christy said he has received some nominations, but most tend to come closer to the deadline.
Committee members meet about twice a year in various locations throughout the state. The next meeting is scheduled for September in the Coalinga area, Christy said.
