Morgan Hill – It wasn’t the neighbors next door causing a small raucous in Morgan Hill Thursday morning.
A minor earthquake registering a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale jolted Morgan Hill early Thursday morning but caused no reported damage or injuries.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred at 1:18am about nine miles north of the city and at a depth of four miles on the Calaveras Fault, that runs from Hollister to north of Fremont in Alameda County. There were no reports of damage.
However, the quake was felt as far away as Walnut Creek according to statistics kept by the USGS, but no one reported feeling the temblor in San Benito County and only one resident reported it from Gilroy.
The small quake was preceded by an even more minor 1.1 magnitude quake two miles southwest of Hollister on Tuesday.
Officials at the USGS have said minor earthquakes such as these are common for areas along fault lines such as Hollister and San Juan Bautista.
