Searching for a good steak in King City

I hope all you moms out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I know I sure did!  Of all the years I’ve been a mom, this was definitely one to remember. Besides Mother’s Day, there were plenty of other things going on to keep folks busy last week as well.

Kasey Hurley hosted a bridal shower last Sunday for her sister, Jessika Silva. Jessika and Blake Willoughby will be tying the knot in June, so Kasey hosted the shower in her sister’s honor. The shower was held at Jessika and Blake’s home in Lockwood and some of those attending included Emogene and Wendy Willoughby, Lynnette Hurley, Patti Raine, Vickie and Colleen Sabin, Alicia Koester, Brandi Garza and Wendy and Sierra Jo Sans.

Wacey Barrington celebrated his 10th birthday on Mother’s Day and he had a great birthday party with his friends and family. Wacey had a campout at Lake San Antonio with all his friends on Saturday night, followed by a day of boating on the lake Sunday. Those celebrating with Wacey included the Hurley Family, the Garza Family, the McFarland Family and the Sans Family. Since none of our family had ever been to the lake before (except for Todd), we all had a great time. We all rode behind the boat on an inner tube, got thrown off into the water, and got completely sunburned in the process. But we all had a great time. It was a great birthday for Wacey and a great Mother’s Day for us moms. I hope all you moms out there had as good a day as we did.

I’m not much of a complainer, but I do have a gripe these days about King City. We spent over $200 last week in King City eating out at two different locations and our money would have been much better off spent at Safeway than at the restaurants we ate.

I tell you what, if you want Mexican food in King City, you have your choice of several different spots to get a decent meal, but if you want a good steak in town, well, then good luck.  We ate at the Grill last Wednesday, spent over $90 on tri-tip and burgers, suffered through poor service and left unsatisfied. We tried the new Laurenzo’s (the old Keefers) on Sunday, again spent over $90 AND two hours in a half full restaurant to get not very good food and terrible service.

Obviously a person has to go out of town to get a decent steak. Nothing has ever replaced Keefer’s in King City. They are surely missed around here. I’m to the point where I’d much rather spend our hard earned money at the grocery store and cook my own good meals that will last at least almost two weeks on $200 than spend it on two meals at poor restaurants in town. Come on King City, with as many cattlemen that there are in the area, let’s get a decent steak house in town, it’s about time!

I’m sure many folks will be spending time at the Salinas Valley Fair this week. The fair opened Thursday and will run through Sunday. The livestock events will began Thursday, and don’t forget the championship bull riding Saturday. There should be something for everyone at the fair so be sure to stop by.

Congratulations go out to the King City High Varsity Track teams on their MTAL wins last week in Salinas. Freshman Brooke Tavernetti won second in the 100 meter hurdles and Mattie Barrington won the Varsity Girls Pole Vaulting. Congratulations also go to the KCHS Mustang baseball team for advancing to the playoffs this week as well.

Have a great week, enjoy the fair, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
