Lots of news from Bitterwater

It was a busy week in Bitterwater last week. So many things were going on I don’t know if I’ll get it all in! Seems everyone had a little news to share last week.

Birthday wishes go out to Candace Brewen, who celebrated her birthday last Saturday. J.W. hosted a get-together for her at their place that evening. Those stopping by included: the Hurley family, the Sans family, the Barrington family, Laurence and Donna Hansen, Blake Willougby and Jessika Silva, Wyatt Bourdet and Lacey Taliaferro, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini and Casey Sabin. Birthday wishes also go out to Marilee Rianda who celebrated her birthday Sept. 10.

Anniversary wishes go out to John and Marianne Madson who celebrated their day last Sunday.

Laurence and Donna Hansen became the proud great grandparents of twin boys Aug. 29. Their grandson John Olivera and his wife had two little boys who were welcomed into the family by their-3-year old sister. The boys are named Keoni Russell and Cash Barrett. Both middle names are after their grandparents’ last names. The boys weighed in at 4 and 5 pounds. Congratulations!

Cynnie O’Connor will be hosting Bitterwater Tully School’s annual pancake breakfast Friday, Sept. 21 at the school.  Breakfast will be served from 7-8 a.m. followed by a flag ceremony with our new flag that was just received from the U.S. Congress. Be sure to mark your calendars for that day so you can come and enjoy breakfast with the kids.

Congratulations to Dudley Little who won the All-Around saddle at the Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association Ranch Rodeo last Sunday. Dudley won the Cut N Rope event with partner Shane Higgins, and he placed in a few other events to help him earn the title. The Memorial saddle was given in honor of Buster Ferreira so the entire Ferreira family was on hand to present the saddle to Dudley. The rodeo had a lot of entries so it was a very long day, but a lot of fun for all.

It was a sad day in Bitterwater last Thursday with the passing of long time community member Alma Carlsen. Alma was a very involved board trustee at the Bitterwater School and she was very much loved by all the students and staff. She was an integral part of the school by involving herself in many school productions, serving many delicious hot lunches, producing the school yearbook and so much more. She will be missed so much by so many and my condolences go out to Jerry, the family and all of Alma’s friends. A memorial service will be held for Alma at the ranch with the date still pending.  I will pass on the date in a future column so that everyone who knew and loved Alma can attend.

Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
