The Career Fair at San Benito High School on Nov. 18 was a day for students to talk to representatives from various colleges and organizations so the students could be exposed to different education or career options.
The gymnasium was full of booths from wall to wall for students to explore the possibilities in their future.
“I was thinking about joining the Marines,” said Sophomore Carlos Cortez. “Now I better understand [what I would be doing].”
Some students learned more about alternatives to traditional education.
“I now know what I need to do to get my GED and when I can transfer,” said Joe DeLacerda, a sophomore.
Some students were concerned about the cost of college.
“Now I know about the price of college,” said Andrea Masey, a sophomore. “I will choose the college that I can afford.”
Students learned about many different careers ranging from a police officer to an artist.
“[I’m interested in being a] Public Safety Trading Explorer, which is like a police officer or a junior.officer,” said Aundria Borba, a junior.
Other students discovered majors they may want to puruse in college.
“[I’m interested in] the science department,” said Kori Thompson, a sophomore, “Environmental Science at Monterey Bay.”
Sophomore Kim Garcia S. is also interested in science.
“[I want to pursue] Marine Biology at Monterey Bay,” she said.
Some students suggested that more of the booths be hands on instead of just informational next year.
“They need more hands on like the Gav[ilan College] table, where they do the hair and you actually get to see it happen,” said Stephanie Contreras, a senior.
