The board of supervisors today appointed Janie Lausten as the new member on the Tres Pino Water Board with a 4-0 vote.

Lausten will serve a six-month term while filling in for Dee Ann Brown, who resigned earlier this year. Supervisor Reb Monaco said candidates who aren’t chosen should run during the regular election.

The supervisors were given the task of appointing a new member after the Tres Pinos Water Board split the votes 2-2. The choice would have gone to the voters in an election if supervisors hadn’t chosen someone by the end of this month.

“An election would be costly to Tres Pinos,” Monaco said.

Lausten said at the supervisors meeting that the agency’s operating expenses are a concern and that she is there to be a supporter for the district.

Among four candidates, Lausten and Bobby Zaucha were the only two who showed up to the meeting.
