Now that the election is over, all the signs have been picked up. I’d like to say that I enjoy being a part of the “No on Measure G” campaign. It was a pleasure to work with so many great citizens. I think we proved what America is all about.

My friends out there, you got what you worked for, your rights! I would like to congratulate every one of you for your positive attitudes. That’s what it takes to succeed. I just hope you will be able to square things in a way that we won’t lose what we worked so hard for. A win with 69 percent doesn’t happen too often. That means you’ve got the birds in your hands – don’t let them get away.

I read a letter from Pat Loe on March 4 after the election. It seems like she doesn’t want to admit defeat. Looks like she wants to say “our good people,” “your bad people.” When you can only see from one eye, you can never be fair to others. I have had many conversations with Pat Loe in the past about the needs of this county. I am sure that is she wants to recall, I always mention the need to create jobs for the working force of this county. After she was elected, she received over $3,000, which is easy money. It seems like she is not concerned about those who have to go hundreds of miles to make a living. With her help, the work forces have been driven down to nothing. People are watching. You are not out of reach.

As far as I am concerned, we have just proven that. I just read a letter on March 8 in the Free Lance by Marvin Jones with his opinion about Pat Loe. I couldn’t agree more. Two other letters on Citizen’s Voice matched every word with public opinion. I am sure she has read them.

Another letter from Richard Saxe got my attention. Seems like the defeat of Measure G didn’t change his mind. This person should be disqualified from further negotiations. It doesn’t seem like they sense how much this measure cost and how much damage they have done. Measure G was like the killer bees trying to immigrate into our area. Good thing we stopped them.

The best dramatic occurrence was the elderly woman and her passenger who ran the red light in order to avoid being caught. Did she really have those ballots in the car? I sure got a kick out of that one! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

I read the letter from Pete Frusetta about the shape of our county roads. How right Pete is! I was a county worker for many years and saw that coming. This problem started with the liberal Max Bridges – a man who loves zeros. I couldn’t believe all the changes he made in the Public Works Dept. He cut all the conservative programs we had like screening all the gravel to cover oil or fillings. He parked a $60,000 plus screener that was used to screen gravel to cover oil for our roads. And now they go to Aromas for every load needed which is more expensive to the taxpayer. There was a pit by the yard where we could get all the materials we need for repair work. We used to oil and chip 20 to 30 miles a year and did the maintenance every 12 years to keep the roads in good shape in a conservative way. The last few years nothing has been done to the county roads. The budget has been spent for repairs around town. Blacktop is too expensive for maintenance on county roads when oil and chip will do the job. County roads are left to the mercy of God since the budget is spent around town. There is no way we can afford 350 miles of county road repairs.

What is going to happen when we end up with gravel roads? I don’t see anyone out there with any clues how to straighten out this mess. Public Works is like a ship in the middle of the ocean with no propeller. All captains and no one with common sense to steer back to port. Public workers just drive in circles with three-fourth-ton trucks, some one-ton’s. Poor tax payers! If our leaders don’t hire a captain who knows how to fix the propeller it will be going in circles until they sink.

I would like to congratulate Don Marcus for his success. It didn’t surprise me. I wish you good health so that you can serve with honor like you always have. It pays to come from a good family.

We have two good men running for District 2. I am comfortable with either one but I am leaning towards Freitas because of his age. It’s hard to get good men for this position if not now then possibly never. Anthony Botelho is much younger and eight years from now he will be a good man to take over.

My friend of “No on Measure G” held our bird tight. I hope we can get things solved without losing our rights. That’s what we worked so hard for. Thank you all for a well-done job.

VIVA AMERICA!

Hollister
