A city employee sticks his arm down a hole at San Benito Street and Nash Road on Monday. Crews addressed a main break down the block where the road ruptured a bit, spilling out water.

A water main break caused rerouting of traffic on San Benito Street near downtown Hollister on Monday morning. City Manager Bill Avera on Monday night said it could be another 24 to 48 hours to fix it.
“That’s a pretty big break,” Avera told council members.
Hollister public works crews responded before noon to the main break near San Benito and Vine streets about a block from Nash Road and the high school.
City Engineer David Rubcic didn’t have much information on Monday’s main break as for a potential cause or ramifications. He confirmed, though, the city is still exploring a broader overhaul to the downtown water main system, an idea on the table since
