The third annual Hollister Airshow, created in 2010 as a way to market the local airport, is set to take off on Memorial Day weekend.
The event runs all day Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 at the Hollister Airport. It will feature aerobatic acts as well as a car show, food and vendor booths, various aircraft on display, airplane and glider rides, and various exhibits.
There will be 600 seats available on the flight light on a first-come, first-served basis and lawn chairs and blankets are recommended for spectator seating.
Single-day tickets, available for sale at the gate for cash only, are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 17, and free for children under 5. Parking is $5 per vehicle. A free shuttle bus will be in service from the downtown parking garage to the airport from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Last year’s event – which was burdened by rainy weather during the holiday weekend – lost just over $2,800 on expenses of approximately $40,000 and attracted fewer attendees and participants than in its inaugural year, though Airport Director Mike Chambless said the show’s economic impact on the community tripled to more than $156,000. The event is funded by the city’s airport fund.
