Abel Soto

Police Officers arrested Abel Soto, 29, after a victim reported Soto was tampering with vehicles around 3 a.m. on July 8.

Hollister Police responded to the area of Fifth Street and College Street in the early morning hours after a citizen reported a suspicious man wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and a black beanie type cap trying to open car doors and looking into vehicles. There has been an increase in vehicle burglaries and thefts from cars reported in Hollister this year. Many of the crimes have occurred during the late night and early morning hours.

Officer Luis Toribio responded to the call and quickly located Soto walking in the

area. Soto was wearing the same type of clothing described by the witness. Officers identified him as the person suspected of trying to open cars and looking into the car windows.

Toribio arrested Soto and transported him to the San Benito County Jail. Soto was

booked for violation of section 10852 of the California Vehicle Code, tampering with a vehicle.
