There was one thing crews forgot to take down before the recent demolition to the Fire Station No. 1 in downtown Hollister on Fifth Street.
When the building was about to come down at the end of March, a passerby noticed an American flag still hanging on the wall at the fire station. Crews immediately stopped what they were doing when it was pointed out, and took some time to retrieve the flag, as seen in this photo submitted by resident Anthony Garcia.
“In a sense, I’m really glad it happened that way but I feel really bad,” said Hollister Fire Chief Fred Cheshire. But he went on: “When I passed and saw the empty lot and consruction trailer up there, it was pretty exciting.”
