The Bureau of Land Management’s Hollister Field Office plans to conduct prescribed burn this fall in northern Fresno County. Approximately 200 to 250 acres will be burned in the Condon Peak area in late October to mid-November, weather permitting, according to an announcement from the BLM.Â
The prescribed burn will be conducted when the wind speeds are low and the weather is within the target prescription, according to the BLM, and it will be postponed if the conditions are not right.
The burn is planned to improve wildlife habitat and reduce brush. The burn pattern will increase native ecosystems, improve water quality of the watershed, and help provide for public and firefighter safety.
“In addition, this will help prevent an uncontrolled wildfire in the future by creating a fire break in which a wildland fire would run out of fuel and be easier to contain,” said Mike Chiodini, BLM Hollister battalion chief.
BLM will conduct the prescribed burn with interagency and landowner cooperation including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, Cal Fire, local landowners and others.
