Each year in the late fall and winter, the City of Hollister Public Works Departments conducts its leaf collection for area residents. This year, the work started a bit after Halloween as usual, said Ray Rojas with Hollister’s streets division. The city is continuing the work, which usually lasts until the start of January, he said.
Leaf collection is one of the main operations for the public works department right now – along with other, standard, daily duties for the crews. The goal of the leaf collection is to prevent damage to city infrastructure.
“We try to keep as much as we can from going into the storm drains,” Rojas said.
For residents’ sake, city crews usually come to homes for leaf collection the day before their scheduled street sweeping. If locals have leaves, they should put them out on the curb in a low, narrow pile, he said.
