A 62-year-old male Gilroy resident was hit by a car and killed at the southern end of downtown at 6:11 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Gilroy Police Sgt. Jim Gillio said he was given few details about the accident, including the name of the victim. He also did not know if anyone had been arrested in connection with the accident, which occurred at Eighth and Monterey streets.

The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner had no record of a death from such an incident.

Police expected to release details of the incident Thursday afternoon.
