Both the San Benito tennis team and golf team’s scheduled matches on Wednesday against Everett Alvarez and Atwater, respectively, were cancelled due to inclement weather.
The boys tennis team actually managed to get a few matches in against visiting Everett Alvarez at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, but a brief rain storm soaked the courts and the two teams were unable to finish the league match.
It was the second cancelled match of the week for the tennis team, which had Tuesday’s match against Gilroy washed out to wet weather.
San Benito head coach Chris Yoder had surmised the Tri-County Athletic League Championships, which is scheduled for Thursday and Friday at Everett Alvarez High School, would be pushed back as a result of Tuesday’s inclement weather. However, Yoder said on Wednesday night that the TCAL tournament is set to begin on schedule — Thursday at 1 p.m.
It was unknown at press time whether the matches with Gilroy and Everett Alvarez will be made up.
Able to pick two singles players and two doubles teams for the TCAL Championships, Yoder said Kyle Skinner and Jacob Garcia will represent San Benito in the singles category, while Connor Bray and Michael Jensen, as well as Austin Pan and Eric Johnson, will play for the Balers in doubles.
The tournament will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, and will continue on Friday at 1 p.m. as well. The tournament will be held at Everett Alvarez in Salinas.
Meanwhile, the San Benito boys golf team’s scheduled non-league match at Atwater on Wednesday was also rained out. The Balers did manage to play several holes at the Rancho Del Rey Golf Course in Atwater before rain and lightning ended play.
San Benito will not make-up the dual meet.
The Balers are scheduled to play in the Tri-County Athletic League Championships on Monday at the Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club in Carmel. Tee time is 1 p.m.
