sobriety/driver license checkpoints in Santa Clara County on Aug.
13 and in San Benito County on August 27, according to a statement
from the agency.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct DUI sobriety/driver license checkpoints in Santa Clara County on Aug. 13 and in San Benito County on August 27, according to a statement from the agency.
“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by intoxicated drivers” said Capt. Tim Saxon, Hollister-Gilroy area commander.
The goal of the CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. A sobriety/driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to enhance existing patrol operations. “By publicizing our efforts we believe that we can deter motorists from driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as well as driving while unlicensed.” Saxon said.
Captain Saxon emphasized: “Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked and drivers who are impaired due to alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message that drinking and driving do not mix.”
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency.
