HS rodeo season starts as fall weather settles in
Fall is in the air. Can you feel it? Pretty soon we’re going to
wake up to frost on the pumpkins! What a strange weather year.
Let’s just hope it’s a wet one, too.
Birthday wishes go out to Candace Brewen who celebrated her
birthday last week. J.W. hosted a barbecue in her honor last
Wednesday evening at their home. Some of those celebrating the day
with her included: John Brewen, the Hurley Family, the Sabin
Family, Doug and Debbie Forzani, the Barrington Family and Vern and
Jo Ann Scattini.

Sierra, Brody and Todd spent last Wednesday evening with Chad Zgragen up at his place on LaGloria Grade. Chad has been graciously helping the kids, along with Cheyenne Rey, with their breakaway roping. Chad’s a great help with the kids and they love going there. He’s a great calf roper himself so Brody is really excited to start calf roping with him too.

Now that the NFL football season is officially under way, I can see that I’m not going to get much accomplished on Sundays anymore, especially now since I’m in the Fantasy Football league! I’m not sure how much I like this fantasy football. It makes watching football so different now. I find myself rooting for teams that I have always despised just so I can make my points! And I didn’t even have time to really watch, or even care about my Broncos! That is definitely a first for me. I did end up doing fairly well with my fantasy team. I won my match-up and ended up fourth in the league for the weekend. Not too bad for a rookie. And for all you out there that thought I was crazy (my husband and son especially) for picking up Jay Cutler as my quarterback, well, he brought in most of my points for the weekend. I’m telling you, he is going to have a great year. Wait and see.

High School Rodeo season is beginning this weekend for many kids. Sierra, Brody, Cheyenne Rey, and Taylor and Twyster Hurley will be heading down to Parkfield this weekend for their first high school rodeo of the year. The kids will be participating in District 7 this year, which consists of San Luis and Ventura Counties, instead of District 4. We chose to compete in that district as there are fewer rodeos to attend which makes it a little less expensive in traveling expenses. District 4 will be hosting their first rodeo of the year on Sept. 26, at the Posse Grounds in Salinas.

The San Benito County Cattlewomen will be hosting their annual Fall Fashion Show and Luncheon on Oct. 10, at the San Juan Oaks Golf and Country Club. There will be great food, fun and raffle prizes. Contact Jayme Stewart or Sandy Rose for more information or for tickets. There is reserved seating and the tickets sell quickly so be sure to get in touch with them ASAP if you plan to attend.
