REDDING

The Gavilan College women’s volleyball split a pair of matches at the Shasta College Classic on Wednesday in Redding, where the Rams defeated Shasta College in three sets before falling to Butte College in three.

Gavilan’s three-set (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) win against Shasta was the fifth win in a row for the Rams. But the winning streak was halted later in the day when the Gilroy junior college lost to Butte (18-25, 22-25, 22-25).

The Rams are now 5-4 overall.

The team will host the Gavilan College Classic on Saturday — a three-team invitational. The Rams will square off against College of the Siskiyous at 10 a.m., and will then face Columbia College at 2 p.m.
