Decision on position expected by November as city finalizes budget
The search for a new director of Hollister’s Redevelopment Agency remains on hold as the city finalizes its yearly budget.
The position has been vacant since January after former director Bill Chow was fired after a sixth-month extension of his probationary period. The RDA is a multi-million-dollar agency designed to eliminate blight and spur economic development using tax increment funds, which is the increase in tax revenues created by improvements made in a specific area.
City Manager Clint Quilter said the hiring process went as far as identifying final candidates – whom he would not name – and that there should be a decision “one way or the other in the next 30 to 45 days.
Despite the delay, “it’s unlikely the position won’t be filled,” he said.
The city advertised the job with a salary ranging from just under $73,000 to a little more than $88,000, depending on the chosen candidate’s experience.
The RDA is coordinating the $5 million remodel of the downtown fire station along with the planned West Gateway project, in addition to various low-income and first-time housing projects.
The recent demolition of the former Leatherback industrial site along Prospect Road and McCray Street was an RDA project as well.
