A 5.25 earthquake rattled the Central Coast, followed by two 4.0 aftershocks.

“Miss Rosemary Botelho entertained at a surprise shower for Carolyn Lomanto who will wed Robert George Perry.”
“Brownie Troop 28 … went on a visit to the Guerra Nut Shelling Plant … on the way out of Hollister they stopped for a treat at the Frosty Freeze which about made their day perfect.”
The $1.5 million Hernandez Dam Project was ruled feasible by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, “marking a victory for San Benito County in its fight for federal interest-free loan to build the south county project.”
Mrs. Fremont Older, “a woman well known locally, who might be termed a patron of the arts as well as an ardent booster of the Old San Juan Bautista Mission, ” was given “just recognition.”
Mrs. Older was given an award of merit from the California Historical Society for her contributions to state history including one book, “California Missions and Their Romances,” which was used as a school text in the ’50s.
The T.V. log, listing all five available channels, advertised such programs as Amos ‘n’ Andy, Frontier Doctor, Dragnet, To Tell the Truth, The George Burns Show, The Red Skelton Show, and the Alfred Hitchcock Show.

Hollister resident Percy Lawrence, “The world’s amateur champion bicycle rider,” beat out a San Jose man named Krusich in a bicycle race in San Jose.
“Krusich rode against Percy Lawrence, the world record holder. Krusich gained seven laps while Percy watched with a smile upon his face, then straightened out and overtook the San Josean, beating him handily.
“Lawrence will be training again in Hollister when the roads get in condition.”
“The Wooing of Miles Standish, the theme of Longfellow’s poem, was shown at the Opal Theater last night. Also, Rip van Winkle, the long sleeper was seen to awake after excellent refreshing slumber.”
