Boy injured at Skate Park in Hollister

Panelists and readers answered the following: With Hollister’s Skate Park adding ramps, would you like to see more enforcement of the law requiring use of helmets?
Mary Zanger: No. Helmet wearing seems to be a parental responsibility and a contract of agreement between parent and child. No law enforcement please.  Save the money.
Nants Foley: I think the people using the skate park should wear helmets. But more enforcement would require more of our limited law enforcement personnel (already stretched) hanging around the park. I would think this is not a good use of our resources.
Ruth Erickson: Elbow and knee pads should be required, too. There should also be a sign describing what gear is required to skate and including “skate at your own risk.” Let’s build another similar park for bikes and scooters so they don’t have to share with skateboarders. With all the new homes and more youth moving here, both parks will have increased use.
Jenna Howard: Yes. I always make my son wear a helmet. Not only is it the law, it’s a basic safety rule in our house. No helmet, no ride. We just moved from Morgan Hill and the skate park there mandates the use of helmets and pads as well.
Kristina Galvan: I’m not sure how the helmet question pertains to an ankle injury?
